Illinois Is Broke Toolkit: Passing Senate Bill 512

To help you spread the word about Illinois’ pension crisis and Senate Bill 512, we have created a toolkit of materials that we hope you will find helpful. The documents in the toolkit are listed below and you can click on the links to access them. The goal is to provide easily accessible information to facilitate your involvement.

Toolkit Items

• Talking points for calls to legislators. Phone calls are the most effective way to engage legislators and press them to support Senate Bill 512. These talking points describe the current pension crisis and how Senate Bill 512 addresses it;
• A Powerpoint presentation describing Illinois’ pension crisis, how we got here, and a brief description of the provisions of Senate Bill 512;
• A one-pager (two-sided) with a brief overview of the pension crisis and an analysis of Senate Bill 512 (its impact on the State’s budget and the pension funds);
• A sample letter to your colleagues describing the current effort and asking them to support Senate Bill 512;
• A sample letter to legislators from your colleagues/employees asking legislators to support Senate Bill 512;
• A sample "Letter to the Editor" asking readers to contact their legislators to support Senate Bill 512.
